What the Rivian Rewards Program is
The Rivian Rewards Program gives points and free charging to people who order a new Rivian R1T or R1S using a referral code from an existing Rivian owner. You earn between 100 and 500 points depending on the motor configuration you choose, plus 3 months of free charging on the Rivian Adventure Network. Points are issued after you take delivery and are spent on accessories and gear in Rivian's R1 Shop and Gear Shop — not on the vehicle itself.
Because Rivian sells direct with no dealerships, there is no salesperson discount to negotiate and no dealer incentive to stack. The Rewards Program is the one built-in way a new buyer gets something extra on an order, and the owner who referred you earns points at the same time.
How to earn Rivian Rewards points
- Attach a referral code before you finalize. The code has to be on the order — it cannot be added retroactively once the purchase is complete.
- Complete your purchase or lease of a new R1T or R1S.
- Take delivery. Points and the charging credit are issued after the vehicle is delivered, not when you reserve or configure.
If you have already placed an order without a code, contact your Rivian sales advisor and ask them to add one before you sign. That works right up until delivery.

Point totals are set by the motor and battery configuration you order, not by the price of the vehicle:
- 500 points — Tri motor or Quad motor configurations
- 250 points — Dual motor with the Large or Max pack
- 100 points — Dual motor Standard
Every qualifying order also includes 3 months of free charging at Rivian Adventure Network sites, regardless of which configuration you pick. You can see where those chargers are in the Adventure Network directory.
What Rivian points can buy
Points are spent in two Rivian storefronts:
- R1 Shop — vehicle accessories: crossbars, bike mounts and gear carriers, cargo solutions, the Rivian Wall Charger for home charging, and other adventure equipment.
- Gear Shop — apparel, camp gear, lifestyle products, and Rivian merchandise.
Rivian adds products to both shops over time, so what points can buy changes as the catalogue grows.
Limits worth knowing before you order
- Points expire after 2 years, counted from when they are issued at delivery.
- Points cannot go toward a vehicle. Deposits, configurations, reservations, and orders are all excluded — including R1T and R1S orders and the upcoming R2 and R3.
- The program is void in Ohio and Virginia.
- The code must be attached before the order is finalized.
Rivian sets and changes these terms, so treat Rivian's official Rewards Program Terms as authoritative if anything here and Rivian's own page disagree.
Rivian Rewards vs. a Rivian referral code
These two terms get used interchangeably, but they describe different things. The referral code is the mechanism — a string you attach to an order. Rivian Rewards is the program that pays out once that order turns into a delivered vehicle. You need a code to enter the program, and the program is what issues the points and the charging credit to both you and the owner who referred you.
A related term is Rivian points, which is simply the currency the Rewards Program issues. Points are not miles, not cash back, and not transferable to a vehicle purchase.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the Rivian Rewards Program?
- The Rivian Rewards Program gives points and free charging to people who order a new Rivian R1T or R1S using a referral code from an existing Rivian owner. Points are issued after you take delivery and are spent in Rivian's R1 Shop and Gear Shop. The owner who referred you receives points as well, which is why owners share their codes.
- How many Rivian points do you get?
- The amount depends on the motor configuration you order: 500 points for Tri or Quad motor builds, 250 points for Dual Large or Dual Max builds, and 100 points for Dual Standard builds. Every qualifying order also includes 3 months of free charging on the Rivian Adventure Network.
- What can you spend Rivian points on?
- Points are redeemed in the R1 Shop for vehicle accessories such as crossbars, bike mounts, cargo carriers, and the Rivian Wall Charger, and in the Gear Shop for apparel, camp gear, and lifestyle products. Rivian adds products to both shops over time, so the catalogue is not fixed.
- Do Rivian reward points expire?
- Yes. You have 2 years from the date your points are issued to spend them. Points are issued after vehicle delivery rather than when you place the order, so the two-year clock starts at delivery, not at reservation.
- Can I use Rivian points toward buying a vehicle?
- No. Points cannot be applied to vehicle deposits, configurations, reservations, or orders. That includes current R1T and R1S orders and the upcoming R2 and R3. Points are only valid on select products in the R1 Shop and Gear Shop.
- Is the Rivian Rewards Program available in every state?
- No. The program is void in Ohio and Virginia. Elsewhere in the United States a referral code can be attached to a new R1T or R1S order. Rivian publishes the governing terms, including any changes, on its official Rewards Program Terms page.
- What is the difference between a Rivian referral code and Rivian Rewards?
- The referral code is the mechanism; Rivian Rewards is the program it feeds. You attach a referral code to your order before it is finalized, and once you take delivery the Rewards Program issues the points and the charging credit to both you and the owner who referred you.
- What if I forgot to add the referral code to my order?
- Contact your Rivian sales advisor and ask them to add the code to your order before you finalize it. This works right up until delivery, but do not sign until they confirm the code is applied, because the Rewards Program cannot issue points against an order that was completed without one.
